A member of the House of Representatives representing Tambuwal/Kebbe Federal Constituency of Sokoto State, Abdussamad Dasuki, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s prolonged internal crisis.

Dasuki announced his resignation in a letter dated March 15, 2026, addressed to the PDP chairman of Dogon Daji/Salah Ward in Tambuwal Local Government Area, bringing an end to his long-standing membership of the party.

In the letter, the lawmaker blamed the decision on what he described as a deepening leadership crisis within the party that has weakened its effectiveness as a major opposition platform.

He stated that the lingering internal challenges have undermined the party’s ability to play its role in strengthening democracy in Nigeria.

According to Dasuki, the crisis has made it difficult for the PDP to offer the “credible and organized opposition necessary for strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.”

The lawmaker said his decision to leave the party followed extensive consultations with political associates, constituents and other stakeholders who share similar concerns about the party’s current state.

Following his exit, Dasuki confirmed that he has joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), noting that the move would enable him to work with other political actors committed to addressing the country’s socio-economic and political challenges.

He explained that the decision was part of a broader effort to collaborate with “like-minded patriots committed to rescuing the country from its current socio-economic and political challenges.”

Dasuki also expressed gratitude to PDP members who supported him throughout his time in the party.

He reaffirmed his commitment to continue serving the people of Tambuwal/Kebbe Federal Constituency and the nation with “dedication, integrity and courage.”

The lawmaker further urged his supporters and constituents to remain steadfast as he embarks on what he described as a new political journey aimed at “salvaging the nation from the precipice and building a more prosperous and democratic Nigeria.”
