President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has condemned the deadly attacks in Maiduguri, describing them as desperate acts by terrorists under pressure, while vowing that Nigeria will not succumb to fear.
“The recent news from Maiduguri, Borno State, is profoundly upsetting. I mourn those who lost their lives, sympathise with the injured and stand in solidarity with the people of Borno during this challenging time,” Tinubu said.
He said the attacks were the “final desperate and frantic attempts” by terrorist elements seeking to spread fear, as Nigerian security forces intensify operations against them.
“These acts of terror are the final desperate and frantic attempts by criminals and terrorist elements trying to instil and spread fear, as they are under constant pressure from our brave armed forces and security agencies,” he stated.
Tinubu assured that efforts against criminal groups would be strengthened nationwide.
“We will continue to intensify our efforts against all criminal elements, wherever they may be,” he added.
He commended the courage of the military and civilian task forces for repelling coordinated attacks on security positions.
“I must commend the courage and fighting spirit of our patriotic troops who successfully repelled the coordinated attacks by these terrorists on military positions in the state,” he said.
Describing the incident as “desperate acts of evil-minded groups,” the President expressed confidence in security forces to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“Our gallant military and civilian task forces will curtail and put them down,” he said.
Tinubu disclosed additional equipment and operational support had been approved to strengthen security.
“Just last weekend, during a security meeting with leaders of security and intelligence agencies, I approved additional equipment and operational support to enhance their capabilities. This effort is already in progress,” he revealed.
He directed security chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri to oversee operations, while emergency agencies were ordered to provide care for the injured.
“There is no place in Nigeria where terrorists will find safety. We will locate them, confront them, and completely defeat them,” he declared.
Reaffirming the government’s resolve, Tinubu stressed:
“Nigeria will not succumb to fear.”
