Governor Chukwuma Soludo has dissolved his cabinet, directing all political appointees in Anambra State to step down and hand over to top civil servants in their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.

The sweeping directive came barely 24 hours after the governor was sworn in for a second term in office.

In a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Nwabufo Nwankwo, the affected officials were instructed to complete the handover process on or before the close of work on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.

According to the circular, appointees are to hand over to Permanent Secretaries or the most senior civil servants, who will oversee operations pending the constitution of a new cabinet.

The statement also directed all first-term cabinet members to meet with the governor on Monday, March 23, 2026, at 10 a.m. at the ANSEC Chambers of the Light House in Awka.

Governor Soludo was sworn in on Tuesday at the newly renovated Alex Ekwueme Square alongside his deputy, Onyeka Ibezim, marking the commencement of his second tenure.

In his inaugural address, the former Central Bank of Nigeria governor pledged to deepen development efforts across the state, highlighting achievements in security and economic activities.

“The debilitating one-sit-at-home is over, and our schools, markets, businesses, and public servants are back to work. Ndi Anambra says that ours is now the safest, or at least one of the safest states in Nigeria,” Soludo said.

The inauguration ceremony drew high-profile dignitaries, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, as well as former Commonwealth Secretary-General Emeka Anyaoku.

Also in attendance was Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, alongside other prominent figures.

Soludo’s return to office follows his victory in the November 8, 2025, governorship election, as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
