The organisers of the maiden Enugu Campus Hackathon have honoured the Vice Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Christian Anieke, with a recognition award for his leadership and support for innovation-driven initiatives.

The award presentation followed the successful conclusion of the first edition of the Enugu Campus Hackathon, which brought together young innovators and stakeholders within the state’s growing tech ecosystem.

Presenting the award, the organisers described Fr. Anieke as “one of the most supportive and forward-thinking academic leaders in Nigeria today,” noting that the honour was in recognition of “leadership, vision, and a deliberate alignment with the future of enterprise and the digital economy.”

They highlighted the university’s role in advancing innovation, stating that “under his leadership, Godfrey Okoye University continues to stand out as a critical partner in Enugu’s innovation ecosystem,” with a strong commitment to talent development and research-driven growth.

The organisers further linked the initiative to the broader vision of Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, noting that the state is “building a new economic architecture that places education, innovation, and human capital at the centre of growth.”

They also pointed to ongoing efforts by the state government to establish a world-class DNA Testing Centre, describing it as “the first of its kind in Nigeria,” aimed at strengthening science, research, and institutional excellence.

“This is how ecosystems are built—through strong institutions, visionary leadership, and strategic collaboration,” the organisers said.

They added that the Enugu Campus Hackathon marks “only the beginning” of a sustained push to position the state as a hub for innovation, talent development, and the digital economy.
