The Anambra State Police Command has raised security alert across the state following what it described as a growing pattern of sensitive comments and narratives surrounding the report of the panel of enquiry on the Awka traditional stool.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the development could pose a threat to public peace and order if not properly managed.

“The Command has observed a concerning pattern of comments and narratives following reports of the Panel of Enquiry on the Awka Traditional Stool, which may pose a threat to public peace and order,” he stated.

He disclosed that the Command has placed operatives of the Anti-Cult Unit and the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awka Sector, on alert to proactively address any potential security concerns.

According to him, “All Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and their operatives across the State, especially within Awka, have intensified security surveillance, intelligence gathering, and visibility patrols to forestall any breakdown of law and order.”

Also speaking, the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, called on residents and stakeholders to remain calm and act responsibly.

He urged the public to “exercise restraint, avoid inflammatory statements, and refrain from actions capable of inciting unrest,” warning that anyone found threatening public peace would face the full weight of the law.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining safety and order across the state, assuring residents of continued proactive security measures.
