Tension gripped parts of Lagos on Saturday evening after troops of Operation MESA arrested a man allegedly found in possession of suspected explosives in Ikorodu Local Government Area.
The arrest followed intelligence reports that a civilian was moving around the Agric area with items believed to be hand grenades during a public event.
Security sources disclosed that troops were swiftly deployed to the scene at about 7:45 p.m. on March 21, 2026, where they secured the area and apprehended the suspect without resistance.
A counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, who revealed the incident in a post on Sunday, quoted sources as saying the suspect was found with items suspected to be as many as 36 hand grenades.
According to the sources, the suspect, said to be a native of Osun State but resident in Ikorodu, is currently in custody, while the recovered materials are undergoing further verification.
They added that security officials immediately briefed event organisers and participants, urging them to remain calm but vigilant.
The sources said the suspect and the recovered items have since been handed over to the military for further investigation.
“The area was secured and the suspect was apprehended without incident after items believed to be explosives were recovered,” one of the sources said, noting that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact nature of the materials.
