The Northern community in Enugu State has declared Governor Peter Ndubisi Mbah the “safest bet” for maintaining peace and stability in the state ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The declaration came during a courtesy visit by Asiwaju Renewed Mandate South East (ARMSE), led by former Southeast spokesperson to President Bola Tinubu, Denge Josef Onoh, to HRH Alhaji Yusuf Sambo, Sariki of the Hausawa community.

Speaking on behalf of over 200,000 Northerners residing in Enugu, Sambo said,
“We don’t have an option because Governor Mbah is friendly to us. Everything we asked for, he has delivered. We will go round all 17 local government areas to tell our people he has done well. He has our full support for a second term.”

Onoh explained why Mbah’s re-election is crucial for preserving the state’s rotational zoning principle.
“If another candidate besides Governor Mbah becomes governor, Enugu West would wait another eight years and Enugu North 16 years or more to produce a governor. Breaching this understanding could destabilize peace. Governor Mbah is the safest bet,” he said.

Tracing the historical bond between northern residents and Enugu, Onoh recalled Mallam Umaru Altine, Enugu’s first elected mayor (1952–1958), as a unifying figure whose leadership transcended ethnic boundaries.
“What divides Nigerians is not tribe but selfishness. Sambo and the northern community have contributed to Enugu’s peace, especially during the herdsmen crisis a decade ago,” Onoh said.

Highlighting Mbah’s track record, Onoh praised the governor’s developmental achievements across transport, infrastructure, agriculture, and urban projects, stressing that continued support would accelerate growth.
“Governor Mbah believes in collective cooperation to grow Enugu State. With your support, he will do even more,” Onoh said.

The community also reaffirmed its support for President Bola Tinubu’s second term, arguing that alignment between state and federal leadership is key to sustaining reforms and delivering results for all residents.
