Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Tuesday cordoned off the Abuja residence of former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, in an operation that drew widespread attention from residents and passersby.
Eyewitnesses said the anti-graft agency deployed about five buses of operatives to the area, taking control of Koranakh Close, off Amazon Street, and restricting all movement in and out of the neighbourhood.
“The operatives came early in multiple buses and immediately took over the entire street,” one eyewitness said. “No one was allowed in or out. It was heavily secured.”
Another resident described the situation as tense, noting that even people living within the area were denied access. “They blocked access completely. Even those who live within the area were stopped from entering,” the resident said.
As of the time of filing this report, the EFCC had yet to issue an official statement explaining the reason for the operation, leaving residents and observers speculating about its purpose.
