The Chairman of Enugu North Local Government Area, Ibenaku Harford Onoh, has urged youths in Enugu State to rally behind Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah ahead of the 2027 elections, describing him as the most viable option for young people in the state.
Onoh made the call on Monday when the leadership of the Nkanu Youth Organization (NYO) paid him a courtesy visit at his office, as political alignments ahead of 2027 begin to take shape.
He stressed the need for youths to take a decisive role in shaping their political future, insisting that continuity under Mbah offers the best path for sustained development.
According to him, “Our youths must begin to see themselves as critical stakeholders in the future of Enugu State. The decisions we make today will shape the opportunities available to us tomorrow. Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has shown, through practical steps, that governance can work for the people, especially the young population. From improved security to investments in education and job creation, there is clear evidence that the government is thinking about the future. I urge our youths not to be swayed by sentiments but to focus on continuity, stability, and progress. Supporting a leader who understands the needs of the people remains the best choice for sustainable development.”
The council chairman further maintained that Mbah’s administration has demonstrated commitment to youth development through investments in security, infrastructure, and human capital, positioning him as a “joy and hope giver” for the younger generation.
He also commended the NYO leadership for what he described as their role in mobilising and empowering youths from Nkanu extraction, noting that their efforts reflect responsible and forward-thinking leadership.
In response, the National President of the group, Gideon Nwafor, praised Onoh’s grassroots leadership, saying his performance has justified the confidence reposed in him by the people of Enugu North.
Nwafor also disclosed plans by the group to organise a large-scale endorsement rally in support of Governor Mbah, aimed at mobilising youths across Nkanu communities.
“We are mobilizing our youths across communities to take ownership of the political future of Nkanu and Enugu State at large. This planned solidarity rally is not just about numbers but about sending a clear message that the youths are ready to stand for what they believe in. We have seen the efforts of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah in different sectors, and we believe continuity will help to strengthen these gains. Our target is to bring together the entire youths in a peaceful and organized manner to show unity and shared purpose. We are also calling on leaders like Dr. Onoh to lend their support, guidance, and encouragement to ensure that this movement achieves its objectives successfully,” he said.
The planned rally, according to the group, is expected to signal growing youth support for Governor Mbah’s re-election bid and reinforce calls for him to remain the preferred gubernatorial candidate from the Nkanu axis ahead of 2027.
