Operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the Anambra State Police Command have arraigned two suspects over the alleged murder of an Onitsha-based employer and the theft of his funds, marking a major breakthrough in the case.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed in a statement issued on March 25, 2026, that the suspects were arraigned on March 18 before a High Court sitting in Onitsha.
According to him, the prime suspect, Chiemerie Anieke, 21, allegedly killed his employer, Ikechukwu Simon Nwite, by striking him on the head with a pestle. He was also linked to a separate attack on one Ogechukwu Nwite in the Fegge area of the city.
Ikenga stated that the second suspect, Godwin Nnabuike Nwokporo, also 21, allegedly aided the crime by providing a bank account used to fraudulently transfer over ₦8 million belonging to the deceased.
“The Operatives of the Command recovered the sum of Six Million Naira (₦6,000,000) from the suspects, being part of the stolen funds, which has been tendered as exhibit in the ongoing court proceedings,” Ikenga said.
He added that both suspects have been remanded in a correctional facility pending further proceedings.
Reaffirming the Command’s resolve, Ikenga warned against criminal activities, stressing that “the long arm of the law will always catch up with offenders,” while assuring that justice will be served in the case.
