Operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka have uncovered a chilling murder case involving a missing person, leading to the arrest of a 35-year-old suspect, Chukwudalu Ezeani, over the death of his cousin.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed in a statement issued on March 25, 2026, that the suspect allegedly murdered his 52-year-old cousin, Chinedu Ezeani, and concealed the crime for eight months.

According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the incident occurred on August 1, 2025, at about 8:00 p.m. in Afube Village, Amichi, in Amichi.

“Preliminary investigations reveal that on 1st August 2025 at about 8:00 pm, the suspect allegedly killed the deceased at his residence in Afube Village, Amichi, and buried the body in a shallow grave within his compound, concealing the crime for about eight months,” Ikenga said.

He explained that the case was initially reported as a missing person incident at the Amichi Police Station but was later reopened following credible intelligence.

“The case… was later revisited by detectives following credible intelligence, leading to the arrest of the suspect,” he stated.

Ikenga added that the suspect confessed during interrogation and led investigators to the burial site within his compound.

“Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and led operatives to the burial site within his compound, where the corpse was exhumed,” he said.

The police spokesperson further disclosed that the remains have been deposited for forensic examination, while the suspect will be arraigned upon the conclusion of investigations.

Reaffirming the Command’s commitment to justice, Ikenga urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly to the nearest police station.
