Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Michael Aondoakaa, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), ending his association with the party.

Aondoakaa disclosed that his resignation took effect from March 28, 2026, explaining that the decision followed extensive consultations with key stakeholders.

He said he arrived at the move after “careful reflection and wide consultations” with his “family, political associates, and supporters.”

In a statement announcing his exit, the former AGF expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve within the party but cited prevailing conditions as the reason for his departure.

“Prevailing circumstances have made it necessary for me to take this step in the overall interest of my people and democratic values,” he stated.

Despite his resignation, Aondoakaa reaffirmed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration.

“I wish to express my profound appreciation to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the visionary leadership he has continued to provide for our nation, as well as for the support and attention Benue State has enjoyed under his administration. I assure him of my continued loyalty to his Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said.

He also commended the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, for his leadership within the party in Benue State.

“Furthermore, I deeply appreciate the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Dr. George Akume, for the quality leadership he has provided to the APC family in Benue State. I acknowledge his role in shaping the political landscape of our dear state and assure him of my enduring respect,” he added.

Aondoakaa equally thanked party members and leaders at the grassroots for their support over the years.

“Finally, I wish to sincerely appreciate the leadership and members of the party in Ushongo Local Government Area, the entire Benue State and beyond for the cooperation and support extended to me over the years,” he said.

His resignation adds to a growing list of political realignments within the APC as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
