A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, Nasiru Gawuna, has resigned as Chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, citing compliance with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive for political appointees to step down ahead of the 2027 elections.
Gawuna’s resignation, contained in a letter dated March 27, 2026, takes immediate effect. The former APC governorship candidate in Kano State is also expected to complete his defection to the African Democratic Congress on Tuesday, amid ongoing political realignments linked to former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
In his letter, Gawuna said his decision was in strict adherence to the President’s directive.
“My resignation is in strict compliance with the President’s directive requiring all political appointees to step down in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act,” he stated.
He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, describing his tenure as both impactful and fulfilling.
“I am profoundly grateful to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the opportunity to serve. It has been a privilege to contribute to the growth and development of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria and our country,” Gawuna said.
Reflecting on his next political steps, he noted that he is entrusting his future to divine guidance.
“I place my future in the hands of Allah (SWT), and I seek His guidance on my next course of action,” he added.
Gawuna also assured of a smooth transition process, pledging to hand over responsibilities in line with due process.
“I remain committed to ensuring a smooth transition process and will hand over all responsibilities in accordance with established procedures and directives,” he said.
His resignation adds to a growing list of political appointees stepping down in line with the President’s order, as alignments ahead of the 2027 elections begin to reshape Nigeria’s political landscape.
