A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, Hon. John Tochukwu Ogbodo, has declared that the outcome of the party’s recent convention underscores the growing influence and control of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah over political developments in the state.
Speaking with journalists in Enugu on Tuesday, Ogbodo said the conduct of the APC congresses across the country—particularly in Enugu—demonstrated a high level of coordination and unity, describing the state’s exercise as one of the most peaceful and well-organised.
According to him, “with what happened during the National Convention of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), it is a sign that Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah is in charge.”
He noted that the congress in Enugu stood out for its calm and inclusive process, adding that, “Enugu’s congress remains one of the finest, as it was executed devoid of rancour, with everyone carried along.”
Ogbodo attributed the smooth conduct of the exercise to the leadership style of Governor Mbah, stressing that his role in maintaining order among stakeholders was pivotal. He said the governor’s influence helped ensure that party members remained focused throughout the process.
The APC chieftain further emphasized that Mbah has continued to demonstrate strong leadership both in governance and party management, describing such qualities as essential for the party’s future electoral success.
He also congratulated Ben Nwoye on his emergence as Deputy National Chairman (South), calling the development well deserved. Ogbodo expressed confidence in Nwoye’s capacity, noting that he would deploy his experience to strengthen the party’s structure across the southern region.
Commending other party leaders, Ogbodo said, “The election of Dr. Ben Nwoye, Mrs Oby Ajih, Hon Basil Ojengwa and Hon Mrs Esther Edeh will enhance the growth of the party at the grassroots level.” He described their emergence as a strategic move that would energise the party’s base and position it for electoral victories.
He urged party members to remain united and called on leaders at all levels to deepen engagement at the grassroots, stressing that the strength of any political party lies in its connection with the people.
Ogbodo further advised the party leadership to prioritise grassroots-oriented individuals when selecting candidates, noting that those with established trust and close ties to the people are better positioned to win elections.
He added that such an approach would not only boost the party’s electoral prospects but also strengthen its relationship with voters, expressing optimism that the APC could secure overwhelming support in future elections.
While appealing for unity, he urged party leaders and members in Enugu State to set aside personal interests and work collectively for the growth of the party, insisting that discipline and cohesion remain key to sustaining its progress.
