The Anambra State Police Command has recorded another major breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on criminal networks in Ogidi, with the arrest of a suspected gang leader and recovery of additional arms.
In a statement issued on March 31, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the latest development followed sustained investigation into an earlier operation carried out by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, on March 21, which led to the arrest of three suspects and recovery of weapons.
According to him, “Operatives made additional progress with the arrest of the suspected ringleader of the syndicate, one Chukwuka Anene, aged 46 years, who confessed to being the armourer of the gang.”
Ikenga disclosed that the suspect subsequently led officers to the gang’s hideout in Ogidi, where more weapons and incriminating items were recovered.
“The following items were recovered: two pump-action guns, two locally made Beretta pistols, five rounds of 9mm ammunition, seven live cartridges, a beret linked to a cult group, and body armour,” he said.
He added that the Command has intensified efforts to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang, noting that investigations are ongoing and further updates will be communicated.
Reaffirming the Police’s commitment to public safety, Ikenga urged residents to support security agencies with timely and credible information.
“The Anambra State Police Command reiterates its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and urges members of the public to continue to support the Police with credible information,” he stated.
