Legal scholar and public affairs analyst, Sam Amadi, has warned that Nigeria risks witnessing its “worst election” in 2027, sharply criticising the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the ruling party amid the ongoing crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Amadi’s remarks come in the wake of INEC’s recent decision to derecognise the David Mark-led leadership of the ADC, a move the Commission said was in compliance with a Court of Appeal ruling.

INEC had, in a statement on Wednesday by its National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, maintained that its actions regarding the ADC leadership dispute were based on the judgment of the appellate court.

However, speaking on his recent engagement at a civil society town hall, Amadi said he directly confronted legal scholar Professor Joas Amupitan over his views, questioning his credibility.

“On the town hall public hearing organized by Nigerian civil society, ADC Chairman asked me to represent him personally. I attended and told Professor Joas Amupitan in his face that his words shows he does not deserve any trust. That his INEC may be the worst,” Amadi stated.

He said he had also taken his concerns to national television, warning Nigerians to brace for a deeply flawed electoral process.

“I have gone ahead on TV to say the 2027 will be the worst election in Nigeria’s history because of Tinubu’s APC and INEC,” he said.

Declaring his professional standing, Amadi added: “My name is Sam Amadi, I am a lawyer with a rich social science analytics. Prepare for a terrible, chaotic and grossly rigged 2027 election. I can bet on this.”

His comments add to growing criticism from political actors and analysts over INEC’s handling of party disputes and its potential implications for the credibility of the 2027 general elections.
