The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Correspondent, Mr. Edeki Igafe, has won the Secretary position in the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Warri Correspondents’ Chapel by-election, while Journalist101 Correspondent, Comrade Success Okuchemiya, emerged Financial Secretary unopposed.
Igafe secured 21 votes to defeat his closest rival, Mrs. Elo-Blessing Edremoda, who polled 6 votes in the election held in Warri, Delta State.
In his acceptance speech, Igafe expressed gratitude to members of the union for the trust placed in him.
“I appreciate members of the Union for the confidence reposed in me and for giving me their votes,” he said.
The by-election followed an earlier deadlock during the NUJ chapel elections held on March 16, where Igafe and Edremoda were tied at 15 votes each.
Meanwhile, Comrade Onyeka Meluwa was also returned unopposed as Treasurer.
Reacting to her emergence, Okuchemiya expressed excitement over the outcome of the exercise, describing her victory as a moment of fulfilment.
She said she “could not hide her intentions” as she expressed “her delight in her victory at the polls.”
