MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL) has urged the Licensed Electrical Contractors Association of Nigeria (LECAN) to adopt digital systems and abandon paper-based processes in a bid to improve efficiency, transparency, and operational effectiveness.
The Managing Director of MainPower, Ernest Mupwaya, made the call in Enugu while receiving the newly elected executives of the Enugu State wing of LECAN during a courtesy visit.
Mupwaya stressed that embracing technology is critical to modernising operations and strengthening service delivery within the power sector.
He also assured the delegation of the company’s readiness to address concerns raised by the association, including issues affecting its role in customer onboarding.
“I will investigate the concerns raised and take appropriate action against any individual or group found culpable, whether staff of MainPower or members of LECAN,” he said.
Earlier, the Chairman of LECAN in Enugu State, Calistus Nweke, had outlined operational challenges facing the association and sought the intervention of MainPower to safeguard its credibility.
Responding, Mupwaya urged the association to expand its operational scope beyond routine documentation and explore new opportunities for relevance and growth.
He specifically encouraged collaboration with state regulatory agencies responsible for building approvals.
“LECAN should broaden its scope beyond routine documentation and explore opportunities such as collaboration with state regulatory agencies responsible for building approvals,” he advised.
The MainPower boss further emphasised the need for internal reforms within the association, including the creation of a comprehensive database of registered electrical contractors.
According to him, maintaining such a database—complete with verifiable office addresses—would help distinguish legitimate members from unregistered operators.
Mupwaya reaffirmed the company’s commitment to sustaining a strong working relationship with LECAN while promoting professionalism and standardisation across the sector.
The meeting was attended by MainPower’s Chief Technical Officer, Engr. Chimezie Chukwu, and Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Ikenna Akabuogu, alongside members of the LECAN executive.
