President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu as Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) and renewed the tenure of Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz as Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, Professor Aliyu replaces Ahmed Galadima Aminu, who resigned his position to pursue his governorship ambition in Adamawa State ahead of the 2027 elections.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu… has appointed Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu as the Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF)… Both appointments take immediate effect,” Onanuga stated.
Prior to his appointment, Aliyu served as Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, and is described as a seasoned academic and administrator.
“The President expects him to leverage his wealth of experience to reposition the PTDF for greater impact in human capital development, innovation, and strategic support for the oil and gas sector in line with national priorities,” the statement added.
In a related development, President Tinubu renewed the appointment of Engr. Abdulaziz for a second and final term following what the Presidency described as a strong performance record.
“President Tinubu renewed Engineer Abdulaziz’s appointment following a comprehensive assessment of his performance and leadership of the nation’s transmission network,” Onanuga said.
The statement highlighted improvements recorded under Abdulaziz’s leadership, including enhanced grid stability, expansion of transmission capacity, and ongoing system modernisation.
“Under his stewardship, TCN has recorded notable improvements in grid stability, transmission capacity expansion, and system modernisation,” it noted.
Abdulaziz, who has over three decades of experience in the power sector, has also strengthened regional electricity integration through his role in the West African Power Pool (WAPP).
The President urged both appointees to carry out their duties with diligence and integrity in line with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“President Tinubu urges both appointees to discharge their responsibilities with diligence, integrity, and a strong sense of national service,” the statement concluded.
