The Mgbowo Ward chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State has announced the suspension of Mr. Francis Alukwu, an aide to the state Commissioner for Local Government and Rural Development, over alleged anti-party activities.
In a formal letter dated April 2, 2026, and jointly signed by Ward Chairman, Charles Ogene, and Ward Secretary, Ifeanyi Ibekwe, the party said the decision followed a review of Alukwu’s conduct, which it described as being in breach of party rules and values.
“We write on behalf of the Ward Executive Committee of the APC, Mgbowo Ward, Awgu Local Government Area, to formally notify you of your suspension from the party with immediate effect,” the statement read.
The ward leadership accused Alukwu of engaging in activities capable of undermining the unity and progress of the party at the grassroots level.
“Your involvement in anti-party activities, as well as actions capable of undermining the unity, discipline, and progress of the APC in Mgbowo Ward, has been duly noted,” the letter stated.
The party also expressed concern over what it described as a contradiction between Alukwu’s political conduct and his role in government.
“It is particularly concerning that, despite your position as an aide to Hon. Okey Ogbodo, Commissioner for Local Government and Rural Development, your actions have fallen short of the loyalty, responsibility, and commitment expected of a member of the APC,” the ward executives added.
According to the statement, the suspension takes immediate effect and is pending further investigation and possible disciplinary measures in line with the party’s constitution.
“Consequently, the Ward Executive Committee… has resolved to place you on suspension pending further investigation and possible disciplinary action,” it said.
Alukwu was also directed to stay away from all party activities during the period of his suspension.
“During the period of this suspension, you are hereby directed to refrain from participating in all party activities and from presenting yourself as a member or representative of the APC in any capacity,” the letter added.
The ward executives further gave him a seven-day window to respond to the allegations.
“You are further given the opportunity to present your response or defence… within seven days from the date of this letter,” the statement concluded.
Copies of the suspension notice were also sent to local and state party leadership, including the Awgu LGA Chairman and the Enugu State Chairman of the APC.
