Odunzeh

Hon. Uche Ben Odunzeh, the 2023 governorship candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Imo State, has formally resigned from the party, describing the move as a calculated step toward broader political realignment.

Odunzeh announced his exit during an interview with journalists on Friday, April 3, 2026, framing his decision as one rooted in principle rather than political retreat.

“My resignation is not an act of retreat, but rather a clear demonstration of loyalty to a progressive vision built on sincerity of purpose, national rebirth, and genuine development,” he said.

He explained that the decision was driven by what he described as the urgent need for stronger political collaboration among opposition forces in Nigeria.

“The current realities in the nation demand stronger political alignment, deeper ideological commitment, and broader collaboration among patriotic opposition forces committed to rescuing Nigeria from bad governance, economic hardship, and systemic decline,” Odunzeh stated.

The former NNPP flagbearer stressed that his next political move would focus on building alliances with like-minded leaders across the country.

“My next steps will be focused on joining forces with like-minded figures in the collective struggle to build a better Nigeria anchored on growth, equity, justice, development, and national renewal,” he added.

Odunzeh also reassured his supporters that his core values remain unchanged despite his exit from the party.

“True leadership is not defined by party platforms alone, but by the courage to stand consistently for the people, positive transformation, and the future of the nation,” he said, urging his followers to remain “resolute, steadfast, and hopeful.”

He reaffirmed that his political ideology remains firmly anchored on “service, inclusiveness, accountability, and the pursuit of a Nigeria that works for all.”

His resignation is already stirring conversations within political circles, with analysts viewing it as part of a broader opposition recalibration ahead of future electoral contests.
