The people of Awkunanaw Clan in Enugu State have explained the reasons behind their planned mega rally in honour of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, citing what they described as sweeping development projects and a new wave of transformation across the area.
The rally, scheduled for April 11, 2026, is expected to draw large crowds as residents gather to celebrate what community leaders call a “rare and unprecedented” style of governance that has directly impacted their communities.
Members of the Strategic Committee—USA Igwesi, Nwabueze Nnamani, Iloabuchi Aniagu, Okey Ogbodo, and Caleb Ani—outlined the motivation for the event while addressing journalists in Enugu after a closed-door meeting.
According to them, the rally is a collective expression of gratitude for the governor’s extensive infrastructure and human development initiatives in Awkunanaw.
“What we plan to do with this Mega Rally is simple. We want to shower gratitude on Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for ensuring that Awkunanaw has not been left out in the litany of physical and human development projects going on in the state. The numbers speak for themselves,” the committee said.
They expressed amazement at the pace and scale of development, adding, “We wonder how it is that one man has this level of creativity and Midas touch. The impact of Gov. Mbah’s projects is such that it will outlive a lifetime.”
Highlighting key achievements, the leaders pointed to the construction of 18 Smart Green Schools valued at over ₦18 billion, 18 Type II Primary Healthcare Centres worth more than ₦1.8 billion, a modern transport terminal, and the rollout of 18 farm estates across the clan.
“It is this depth of love for our people that we want to appreciate. As a clan… the Governor has effectively secured the future of our children and the health of our elders,” they stated.
They also praised the administration’s infrastructure push, noting that several previously neglected areas have been opened up through road construction, alongside the designation of Awkunanaw as an urban area under Executive Order No. 1, 2025.
In a further appeal, Igwesi, Chairman of the Media and Publicity Sub-Committee, called for massive participation in the event.
He urged “all sons and daughters of Awkunanaw, stakeholders, residents of Enugu State, and the general public” to attend the rally.
The event will hold at Awkunanaw Civic Centre, Akpasha, Akegbe Ugwu, in Nkanu West Local Government Area, starting at 10:00 a.m., and is expected to serve as both a celebration of achievements and a show of support for the governor’s administration ahead of future political engagements.
