Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has commended operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) for the arrest of suspected high-profile kidnappers and gunrunners linked to violent crimes in Enugu State.
The governor gave the commendation on Monday during a visit to the DSS state headquarters in Enugu, where he praised the agency’s role in restoring calm, particularly during the Easter period.
The suspects—identified as Kelvin Azodo, David Chukuwnonso, and Arinze Kalu—were described by the DSS as key figures behind a string of attacks on security operatives and kidnapping-for-ransom operations in Enugu and surrounding areas.
Reacting to the arrests, Mbah expressed shock at what he described as the descent of able-bodied individuals into criminality, stressing that justice would be served.
“The good people of Enugu State are grateful for the peaceful atmosphere especially around the Easter period, brought about through the efforts of the Service and other security agencies in the state,” the governor said.
He added that the suspects’ arrest would bring relief to residents who had endured their alleged reign of terror, expressing confidence that their criminal networks would be dismantled.
Mbah further charged the DSS and other security agencies to sustain the current momentum in tackling insecurity, describing safety as a fundamental responsibility of government.
“It is your duty to sustain the tempo of security service delivery, as this remains the primary essence of government and can never be taken for granted,” he said.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to security, the governor pledged continued support for security agencies, noting that his vision is to position Enugu as a safe destination for investment, tourism, and everyday living.
He expressed optimism that sustained collaboration between the government and security forces would ultimately rid the state of criminal elements.
