The Abia State Leadership Caucus of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has disowned Don Norman Obinna, declaring that he lacks the authority to act or speak as chairman of the party in the state.
The decision was reached at a caucus meeting held at the party’s state secretariat in Umuahia, where key stakeholders reviewed the ongoing leadership dispute and reaffirmed their commitment to due process and internal discipline.
Reading the communiqué on behalf of the caucus, Uko Nkole cited a subsisting court order restraining Obinna from parading himself as chairman.
“An interim injunction of the Abia State High Court dated December 3, 2025, restrains him from acting in any capacity as chairman of the party in the state, pending the determination of the case,” Nkole stated.
He added that the caucus’ position aligns with the findings of the party’s South-East Zonal Disciplinary Committee report of September 25, 2025, which clarified Obinna’s status within the party.
The caucus described Obinna’s continued claim to leadership as unlawful and misleading.
“His actions amount to a violation of party discipline and contempt of a valid court order,” the statement said, adding that “any meetings, directives, or public engagements conducted by him in the name of the party are null and void.”
The party leaders subsequently reaffirmed Kanu O. Kanu as the Acting State Chairman of the ADC in Abia State, pending the conduct of state congresses.
They also urged the public, security agencies, and stakeholders to disregard any statements or activities linked to Obinna in the capacity of ADC chairman.
Reiterating loyalty to the national leadership, the caucus expressed confidence in the party’s direction under David Mark.
The caucus emphasized its commitment to unity, discipline, and respect for constituted authority across all levels of the party.
