Residents of Oduma in Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State have declared their unwavering support for Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, while calling on a prominent community leader, Comrade Christian Onyeabochukwu, to contest in the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement came on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, during a well-attended prayer meeting held at Amagu Oduma, where community stakeholders emphasized competence and accountability as key criteria for future political leadership.

Speaking at the gathering, some leaders of the community said their appeal to Onyeabochukwu was driven by his proven leadership capacity and commitment to grassroots development.

Dr. Denis Ogbonna and Mr. Chukwu Emmanuel Ikechukwu noted that Oduma people were determined to support only leaders who demonstrate competence.

“We will only support leaders who have shown capacity. We are calling on stakeholders in Aninri and beyond to prevail on Comr. Christian Onyeabochukwu to show interest in the 2027 election,” they said.

They described Onyeabochukwu as a leader with strong potential, likening his leadership qualities to that of Governor Mbah.

Also speaking, a women leader, Mrs. Francisca Onyeabor, alongside political mobilisation expert, Mr. James Njokuaba, pledged to rally widespread support should Onyeabochukwu heed the call.

“We are prepared to mobilise massively in support of his political aspiration,” they stated.

Responding to the appeal, Comrade Christian Onyeabochukwu, President-General of Amagu Oduma Autonomous Community, expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in him by his people.

“I thank the Oduma community for the leadership qualities they have seen in me that necessitated this patriotic call,” he said.

He added, “I will consider the appeal to vie for an elective position after wide consultation with critical stakeholders.”

Onyeabochukwu, who has held several elective and appointive positions since 2019, assured the people of his readiness to deliver transformative governance if given the opportunity to serve.

The event also featured symbolic gestures of endorsement, including the presentation of the traditional “Ofor” to Onyeabochukwu, signifying authority and collective backing, alongside monetary donations by supporters to encourage his potential bid.

The development highlights growing grassroots political mobilisation in Aninri ahead of the 2027 elections, with community leaders aligning support for both continuity in governance and emerging local leadership.
