A former South-East spokesman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Josef Onoh, has dismissed reports alleging mass resignations within the Enugu State chapter of the party over purported marginalisation by Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, describing the claims as “sensational and misleading propaganda.”
In a statement issued in Abuja, Onoh said the narrative suggesting that the Enugu APC was being “rocked by mass resignations” was a deliberate attempt to create a false impression of crisis within the party.
“My attention has been drawn to a recent publication peddling the narrative that the Enugu State chapter of the APC is ‘rocked by mass resignations’ due to alleged exclusion and marginalization by Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah. This story… is nothing more than poorly orchestrated propaganda lacking substance and disconnected from the realities on the ground,” he said.
Onoh maintained that contrary to such claims, the Mbah administration has continued to record measurable achievements across key sectors, including security, infrastructure, revenue generation, and human capital development.
He noted that these accomplishments have attracted endorsements from critical stakeholders, including the Forum of Former Members of the Enugu State House of Assembly, the Northern community in the state, and pro-Tinubu support groups.
“These endorsements are rooted in performance, equity, and adherence to the long-standing principles of rotational governance… They stand in stark contrast to the baseless claims of exclusion being amplified in certain quarters,” he added.
The APC chieftain accused those behind the reports of being “accidental politicians” driven by selfish interests rather than party unity and good governance.
According to him, “These individuals expect the Governor to compromise the interests of other committed party loyalists… When such parochial expectations are not accommodated… they resort to orchestrated propaganda, resignation theatrics, and threats of defection.”
Onoh further alleged that many of those now criticising the party had failed to support the APC and its presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, during the 2023 elections.
“During the intensely challenging 2023 presidential electioneering period… these elements actively worked against his candidacy. They failed to rally behind the party’s flag at a critical moment,” he stated.
He, however, commended Governor Mbah for aligning the state with the federal government and supporting Tinubu’s re-election bid, describing it as a strategic move for both Enugu State and the South-East region.
Onoh insisted that the alleged exits of aggrieved members pose no threat to the party, arguing instead that they offer an opportunity for consolidation.
“The current APC in Enugu State does not feel the impact of their exit… Their departure is only but a good omen to the party. It clears internal space, removes potential saboteurs and fair-weather actors, and allows the APC to consolidate around genuine loyalists,” he said.
He concluded by expressing confidence in the party’s growing grassroots support, stressing that “empty headlines” and “exaggerated claims” cannot overshadow the administration’s performance or the political reality on ground.
“We shall let the ballot box… speak for us. No amount of propaganda or orchestrated exits can override the verdict of the electorate,” Onoh declared.
