The Federal Government of Nigeria led by President Muhammadu Buhari has successfully proscribed the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB as a terrorist organisation.

The latest development is a pronouncement by a Federal High Court in Abuja granting an order declaring the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as a terrorist organisation and “acts of terrorism and illegality.”

The order, which followed a motion filed by the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, also proscribed the existence of IPOB throughout Nigeria, with particular attention paid to the South-East and South-South regions.

A further order was to proscribe the existence of the group and all others who champion causes similar to it. All the reliefs were granted by the court. It is subject to a publication of names all pro-Biafra in an official gazette and two national dailies.

The Army had earlier declared the group a terrorist organization but the Army chief described it more as a pronouncement rather than a declaration.

The Army, prior to their terrorist group pronouncement had began a clampdown of the members of the group which culminated with the invasion of the residence of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu at Afara, Umuahia, Abia State.

After the attack, Kanu has not been seen by anyone.
