Senator Shehu Sani has declared that he won’t leave APC
– 15 APC senators and 35 members of House of Representatives had on Tuesday, July 24, defected to PDP and ADC
– He said he supported the ongoing reconciliation efforts undertaken by the party’s national executive led by the national chairman
Senator representing Kaduna central in the National Assembly, senator Shehu Sani on Thursday, July 26, declared that he remains a member of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC).
NAIJ.com gathered that the Senator said this while fielding questions from journalists at the APC national secretariat after a meeting with the party’s national chairman, comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
He said that he supported the ongoing reconciliation efforts undertaken by the party’s national executive led by the national chairman.
“We are confident that the new leadership of the party has the capacity, the ability to address these injustices.
“In the words of Frantz Fanon, ‘We revolt because we cannot breathe’. So we revolted against how the party was run because it is suffocating us. Now we have a new surgeon who is doing everything possible to put it back on track. That is why we give him the benefit of doubt that the problem can be solved.” Sani said.
Asked about his party membership status, Sani retorted: “If I am here, I am an APC member. If I am not an APC member, you will not see me at the party’s national secretariat.”
Sani is one of the most vocal critics of President Muhammadu Buhari within the ruling party. Due to his long-running feud with Nasir el-Rufai, Governor of Kaduna state, Sani had been widely tipped to be weighing up a defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The senator spoke after the senators on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) met with the president on Wednesday, July 25.
