Senator Ibrahim Lamido, representing Sokoto East Senatorial District, has announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the party’s inability to safeguard the interests of his constituents amid growing hardship.

In a statement issued on April 4, 2026, the lawmaker said his decision to quit the ruling party takes immediate effect, stressing that it was taken after careful consideration of prevailing conditions affecting the people he represents.

“I hereby resign from the APC with immediate effect,” Lamido declared.

The senator explained that his exit was driven by concerns over the party’s failure to adequately protect and support citizens, particularly those in his constituency.

“My decision is based on the party’s failure to safeguard the people I represent and the hardship currently being faced by them,” he said.

Lamido emphasised that his defection was not motivated by personal ambition but by the need to act in the best interest of his constituents.

“This defection is primarily in the interest of the people I represent,” he added.

His resignation marks a significant political development in Sokoto State, coming amid increasing concerns over economic hardship and security challenges across parts of the country.
