Biafran candidate for Anambra central 2019 senatorial election, Obumneke Ejimnkeonye Okafor, has promised to ensure that the proscription of IPOB is reversed and that he will get the freedom we have been longing for if elected the senator that will represent his zone. He made the statements in his daily broadcast called Daily Breakfast (02/12/2018).

The full text reads;

“The call for regional autonomy is a diplomatic request for freedom, while its rejection and insistence on unitary government by our oppressors is an open refusal to grant ethnic nationalities in Nigeria freedom. Freedom of ethnic nationalities in Nigeria was taken from them in 1966. It is their right to ask for it and get it back.

The quest for Biafra by many pro Biafra groups, the demand for Yoruba nation by YOLICOM, the request for Nigeria Delta republic by MEND and MOSSOP, the call for Islamic state by Islamic Movement in Nigeria led by El-Zakzaky, etc show that most regions/ethnic nationalities in Nigeria want freedom. These different demands for freedom are legitimate and need urgent attention before Nigeria implodes and consume most of its citizens.

The demand for referendum that will determine if an indigenous nation wants to remain in Nigeria or become a sovereign nation is also legitimate and it is backed by UN and AU charters. Although the demands of emerging nations in Nigeria are legitimate, they should consider autonomous regions or forming nations within a bigger nation like president Buhari advised Biafra in one of his interviews to Al Jazeera.

If Nigeria had returned to regional government since its return to democracy in 1999, healthy competition among the regions would have led to industrialization, creation of jobs and wealth, higher revenue earnings by states and regions, peace and security, etc. Moreover, there would not have been current agitations for independent nations, killing of citizens by trigger happy force men and terrorists, insurgency, lawlessness, proscription of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) which is executive recklessness and judicial error. IPOB is not a group, thus it should not have been proscribed. The proscription of IPOB because of actions of oppressed youths is wrong. Can Oduduwa people (Yoruba nation) be proscribed because of actions of Odua Peoples Congress (OPC)?

The proscription of IPOB should be reversed without further delay so as to give room for smooth discussion for autonomous regions. As the voice of freedom, I will ensure that the erroneous proscription of IPOB is reversed and ensure that ethnic nationalities in Nigeria get freedom they have been demanding. The freedom shall come in the form of regional autonomy.

Regional autonomy will give ethnic nationalities in Nigeria the freedom we desire. We will not allow current slavery to continue. We want our freedom back, thus ethnic nationalities must speak in unison and send reliable representatives to national assembly to approve Regional Autonomy bill(s). That is the only way we can get freedom now.

Who will ask for our freedom again? Who shall be in senate and consistently move motions for autonomous regions for ethnic nationalities in Nigeria? We need a Pa Enahoro of our time in senate. The man has been crying like John De Baptist cried in the wilderness. Have you heard his voice?
