Senator Ayogu Eze, the Enugu State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) says the state is blessed with immense tourism potential that is yet to be exploited.

Eze said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

“The people of Enugu state should demand an explanation to why the potential that abound in the state have not been exploited for the benefit of the people.

“Rather, these assets are allowed to waste while the people suffer and continue to hear how there are no funds to execute worthwhile, people-oriented development programmes,” he said.

According to him, Enugu state has arguably the most enviable tourism potential in Nigeria, and this could be developed and milked for the benefit of the people.

“From the famed Milken Hill to the Awhum Caves and Waterfalls; from the Ngwo Pine Forest, cave and Waterfalls to the Ezeagu Tourist Complex to the Ugwueme Udi Hills.

“We also have the Ani Ozalla Lake, the Akwuke Attakwu Beach, the Opi Lake System, the Silicon Hill in Uzo-uwani, and the Isi Ugwu Obukpa Rock Selter, to mention just a few,” he said.

Eze, who for two terms was the Senator representing Enugu north senatorial district in the upper legislative chamber, said it was not just all about physical features.

“There are lots of intricate arts and craft in the state, which should be tapped to further empower our people and raise their standard of living.

“In addition, there are also a lot of cultural festivals, many of which feature dazzling masquerades, breathtaking dances and acrobatic displays that would have tourists coming, again and again.

“My government will expand coverage and develop new offerings, facilities and incentives and deliver a hassle-free experience to tourist.

“It will also provide social services like networks for phones, radio and television, health clinics, sports and other recreational facilities that meet global standards,” he said.

The APC Enugu state flag bearer said if elected, the people would be directly involved in the tourism industry and that the government would mainly act as a necessary catalyst.

“I have strategic framework for sustainable tourism development that will ensure tourism and associated infrastructure operate within natural capacity for the regeneration and future productivity of natural resources.

“Government will provide the required infrastructure and the enabling environment that will enhance the people’s full time involvement in the industry.

“The framework will also ensure that host communities have fair share in the economic benefit of tourism which must be guided by the wishes of the local partners,” he added
