The Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari, on Senate matters, Sen Ita Enang, has been attacked in his homeland of Ididep ward 2, Ibiono Ibom Local Council of the state.
Ita Enang who confirmed the attack to some journalists in Uyo on Saturday said the incident happened when he was denied access to his centre.
According to him, “The violence actually happened at the RAC centre when I was denied entrance to the place.”
He, however, decried the extent to which the standard of electoral process has fallen in Nigeria, blaming such decay on electoral practitioners.
He said an election as serious as presidential election would have paraded more security personnel than it did.
“Elections has never fallen in standard as much as it has this time, and the blame comes to us the practitioners, not the umpire,” he said.
Meanwhile, normalcy was later restored and voting commenced, but eyewitnesses told some journalists that the resistance occurred when members of the PDP in the area were allegedly denied access to the polling unit which is located close to Sen Enang’s residence.
They alleged that, “the APC initially brought some thugs to hijack materials, but we resisted them, thereafter they decided to prevent PDP members from entering the polling unit which is just around Ita Enang’s house so the people had to resist him to enable them exercise their civil responsibilities.”
