…Says I never knew he was existing

ENUGU— The Enugu State Chief Security Officer, CSO, of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mr. Victor Egede, has denied any involvement in the brutal murder of popular Enugu-based pro-Biafra Prophet, Anthony Nwoko, saying he never knew the prophet existed until his death.
Recall that in a video broadcast on BBS TV online channel which went viral on Wednesday, 1st May, 2019, the nationwide leader of the Biafra Nations Youth League, BNYL, Comrade Princewill C Richard, said after his group carried out an investigation on the killing of Nwoko, it was “discovered that the killers are not outsiders but within the Biafra community.”
BNYL’s leader, further indicted the said security officer, alleging that “findings show that the Enugu State IPOB Chief Security Officer was directly involved in the killing.” This was further accompanied by Egede’s picture circulated by the group and several online media platforms.
However, speaking to our correspondent over the phone, Egede said he has nothing to do with the death of the late prophet, adding that those circulating his pictures online as the supposed assailant were behind the death of the late cleric.
Egede further threatened to go spiritual in order to be vindicated, lamenting that the people behind the death of the cleric will never rest.
According to him, “Everywhere I go, people ask me if I killed Prophet Nwoko but my hands are clean; me that was sleeping in my house and doesn’t even know what was happening.
“Those circulating my picture are the people behind that man’s death. I’ll call up the spirit of that man to go after his killers. You all should watch out and see what will happen. Those who killed that man will never rest.
“I’m a free man and I’ll be going on my own. Any policeman that puts hand in this case will enter into trouble.”
When asked if he was aware the late prophet reportedly alleged that some IPOB members were threatening his life, Egede said: “I don’t have anything to say concerning the threat to his life by some IPOB members because I never knew that somebody called Prophet Nwoko was existing in the first place.
“I don’t know anything about Prophet Nwoko and I don’t even read Nigerian news media. Once in a while, I listen to our radio broadcast but not too often because I believe as their old member, I don’t need information from our leader to propel me again. I only get information from certain quarters.
“But I don’t even know that the man exist in the first place until the news of his death broke out. I never knew he lived at Ugbene 2 as they said and I have never heard of him nor his name. That is the most painful part of it.”
Asked if he was aware of the face-off between the late prophet and the IPOB leader who criticized the former on radio, he explained that he doesn’t listen to radio broadcasts and as such could not have known about their squabbles.
“I don’t listen to our broadcast often because one: they have terminated my electricity and I don’t have all these small radios to listen to broadcast. So, I never heard anything about Prophet Nwoko and I stand on my ground, I’ve never heard anything about it,” he said.
He concluded by asking those peddling rumours that he was on the run to come forward with evidence.
“Ask those people where I ran to. Ask them where did I run to. I’m in Enugu but I urge you all in the media to be careful to an extent until the truth comes out because my character has been assassinated in this accusation. All I know is that in due time, the truth must surface and I’ll be vindicated,” he asserted.
