Barr. Emeka Emekesiri, Solicitor of the Indigenous People Of Biafra

This year’s observation of Biafra Day- 30th May seems to be taking an entirely new dimension as both Pro Biafra groups and Pan Igbo organizations are coming together to mark the day.

This is the first time such synergy will be taking place to mark a day that resonates in the heart of every free born in the eastern Nigeria.

In a letter signed by the solicitor, Customary Government of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Barr. Emeka Emekesiri, Esq, he enjoined or Biafrans in Nigeria to participate in programmes of a Pro Igbo organization, Alaigbo Development Foundation billed to hold at Rock Cathedral, Enugu.

‘This is to notify all the Biafrans living in Nigeria and in the Diaspora that our annual celebration of 30 May in honour of our fallen heroes and heroines and in upholding our history and rich cultural heritage shall be a joint celebration at the ROCKS CATHEDRAL, Ogui, Enugu, with the participation of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Alaigbo Development Foundation, and the Coalition of the pro-Biafra Groups.”

Speaking about some pro Biafra groups that have instructed their members to mark the day by staying at home, Barr. Emeka said that their decision is respected and advised them to ensure they stay at home and not do anything that will put them in harms way.

“We have noted that some pro-Biafra groups have instructed their members to sit at home on that day. We respect their choice to commemorate the day by sitting at home but we advise them to sit at home and never to interfere with other people who will exercise their freedom to move around and attend our celebration at the ROCKS CATHEDRAL, Enugu, for the great event.”

The other parts of the letter reads;

“The Coalition of pro-Biafra Groups shall hold a Press Conference at Enugu in the morning of 30 May 2019 by 10.00am and move to the Rocks Cathedral for the celebration. Thus, there shall be movement on that day as some people shall come from various places to attend the event at the Rocks Cathedral, Ogui, Enugu.

“This commemoration is a cultural event anchored upon our Customary Law. It is a day we shall remember our history, mourn our dead, and tell our children and grandchildren our stories by ourselves.

“We request for your cooperation and enjoin everybody to keep the peace.”
