The lawmaker representing Ezeagu Constituency in Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Barr. Chima Obieze has admonished the law students of Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, to be wary of the kind of life they chose to live because “what you allow to thrive today, your children will inherit it tomorrow and be part of it” thus they should ask themselves “what am I going to live for my children? What kind of society will my children be brought into?”
Hon. Obieze asked the law students this pertinent question at the institution’s Annual Law Dinner on 14th June, 2019 in Enugu and encouraged them to get involved in nation building while practicing their noble profession.
“Therefore, as lawyers, I need you to think deeper, I need you to pay attention to nation building.
“It is not enough to go to court, it is also important you think about Nigeria as a country and contribute your quota in a different way that befits your chosen carrier and you can only do this positively when you dare to be different not minding how bad the system has become” he said.
He went ahead to encourage the students to pay keen attention to what they have come to do in the faculty of law, study hard, pay attention to cases, do their review before the each class and pay attention in the class because “your future and the destiny of your children lies in your schoolbag” Hon. Obieze concluded.
Speaking earlier in the programme, the dean of the faculty of law, Prof. Osita Ogbu who decried that the issue of corruption has been reduced to the background of our studies as we rather pay more attention to other things said the faculty is evolving to give the society the best.
Prof. Ogbu said that in keeping the faculty in tune with the current trend in the society, they have introduced “Election Petition Law and “Securities and Exchange Law” into the faculty.
