ABUJA— Members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), also known as Shi’ites on Monday claimed its highest-profile victim as they shot the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operation at FCT Command to death during a protest.

It was gathered that DCP Umar was killed by the irate protesters while trying to prevent the hostile action of destruction of property at the axis of the federal secretariat and three arms zone.

As a result of the ugly development, security was beefed up at the Force Headquarters to repel reprisal attacks over the arrest of scores of the protesters who were demanding the release of the spiritual sect leader, Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

More details later…
