Federal Government has allocated N3.2bn in 2019 budget for the development of national grazing reserves, promotion and development of beef production as well as otherlivestock programme.

The amount is contained in 2019 budget signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari on May 28.

Specifically, the amount is contained in the budget of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

A breakdown of the amount showed that N2.48 billion was specifically allocated to the development of national grazing reserves.

Further analysis of the ministry of agriculture budget showed that N212 million was allocated to the promotion and development of beef production.

Similarly, a provision of N380 million was made for motorised boreholes in Kano grazing reserves by the Federal Government.

In the same vein, the government also allocated N139 million for training of youths in the installation and maintenance of solar-powered street lights to livestock and other farms while N60 million was budgeted asagricultural grants for women and youths in livestock farming.

In addition, the government is also projecting to spend about N8.5 million for the development of pastures in grazing reserves in the 2019 fiscalperiod.

Based on analysis of the 2019 budget of the ministry of agriculture, there is nospecific amount captured with thenomenclature of Ruga settlement.

However, there are other budgetaryprovisions that are made for various agricultural projects such as N2 billion for support of infrastructure projects and coordination services among others.
