Ahead of the threat by a Pro-Biafra group, Biafra Zionist Movement, BZM, to declare the Republic of Biafra on 30th July, 2019, the security agents in Enugu has commenced actions to forestall any breakdown of law in the state.

Speaking to Newsmen and stake holders in the transport sector in the Command’s headquarters in Enugu, the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Balarabe Musa said “the command will not relent in communicating the members of the public of the plans of the command in handling the security challenges in the state.”

Speaking about the plans of a Pro Biafra leader to declare Biafra tomorrow, 30th July, the police boss told the transport operators to advice their members to refrain from aiding anyone that wishes to truncate the peace in the state.

“According to the intelligence reports at the disposal of the police, the group may seek the services of your members (Keke driver, Bus drivers), we know each of you are peace loving people that are out to make a living.

“We know you all are peace loving people thus won’t allow themselves to be brainwashed by anyone to abandon their family and their lawful endeavours in search of something that is hazy, illusionary and unlawful.”

The police chief also charged the leaders of the groups to advise their members members and supporters to continue being law abiding.

Speaking on behalf of National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, their chairman represented by the secretary Comr. Collins Nebo assured the police that their union “is ready to support the police in their drive to make the state peaceful like we have always done. We have no reason to fail in our partnership with you, we will continue partnering with you and we won’t fail in doing that” comrade Nebo said.

Similarly, the leadership of Tricycle Operators (KEKE) in the state represented by their Chairman, Ikah Benjamin Ejiofor assured the Force of their readiness to support them. He also assured that “Keke riders in the state would not be part of any unlawful act.” Ikah maintained that “any Keke rider that will be involved in any unlawful activity will be handed over to the police.”

Reacting to their comments, CP Balarabe said he has never doubted their commitment to the peace of the state. He encouraged them to reject any offer that will be made to them as the peace of the state is paramount.

The police advised the public to go about their lawful businesses as nobody will be coarced into joining an illegal pursuit. He assured the public to entertain no fear as they have put all measures in place to ensure adequate security tomorrow and beyond.

Also, the police commissioner used the avenue to appreciate Enugu state police Taekwondo team led by Frank Ekwerike for coming out as the “overall beat team” at the just concluded IGP open Taekwondo competition in Portharcourt, Rivers State.
