…says it wasn’t a case of bombing as being speculated
ENUGU— Some unknown gunmen on Sunday, launched an attack against operatives of the Nigeria Police Force at the Ikirike Police Station, Agbani Road, Enugu South LGA of Enugu State.
It was further gathered that the hoodlums who are currently at large, approached the Station, feigning helpless and under some distress which they used as an opportunity to launch attack against personnel on duty.
A statement issued by the Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ebere Amaraizu, confirming the incident, said though there was no dead casualty recorded, the operatives sustained varying degrees of injury.
The Police also dismissed speculations of the incident as bombing.
“It was an incident which has to do with attack by some people suspected to be hoodlums and who had come with the pretence of laying complaint in the early hours of today and under that guise, attacked our men.
“Although there was no dead casualty, our injured personnel are responding to treatment. The quick intervention of reinforcement team as despatched by the commissioner of police could not give the hoodlums the opportunity to have the upper hands,” the statement read.
Amaraizu added that the commissioner of police had directed for a full scale investigations into the incident with a view to unmasking those behind the incident.
