…says hoodlums did not have access to armoury in Ikirike station.

Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Mr Sulaiman Balarabe, on Monday,
said that hoodlums that attacked Ikirike Police Station in Enugu South
Local Government Area did not have access to its armoury.

Sulaiman said this during a press briefing in Enugu shorting after a security meeting with Divisional Police Officers and top officers of Enugu State Police Command.

It would be recalled that some hoodlums, who pretended to lodge a complaint at the station, turned around to attack the station in the early hours of Sunday.

The commissioner noted that till now there was no case of missing rifle being erroneously speculated by some newspaper reporters, adding that “No armoury was loot or any rifle missing from
preliminary investigation’’.

“I led the reinforcement team to the station that morning and we ensured that we overpowered the hoodlums and even gave one of the hoodlums a serious bullet wound, which will likely lead to his death.

“The police team trailed the blood stain of the wounded hoodlum into the vast thick forest at the back of the station as far as some kilometres.

“I am sure that the hoodlum in question is going to die from serious
bleeding,’’ he said.

Sulaiman noted that the hoodlums, who pretended to come and lodge a complaint at the station, fled from the back of the station, which was not fenced.

“The hoodlums took advantage of the unfenced and vast forest behind
the station to launch the attack as well as escape,’’ he said.

On the injured police personnel during the attack, the commissioner said that the four injured policemen are responding to treatment and “they are doing fine.”

“They are doing fine, responding to treatment and will be discharged from the hospital soon since they incurred minor injuries,’’ he said.

Sulaiman assured that the Command was trailing the fleeing hoodlums and it would not be long the Command’s operatives would capture the hoodlums and those behind them.

“I urge hospital facilities and doctors should report anyone with bullet wounds to the nearest police station.

“I am assure the good people of the state that criminal elements troubling the state will be apprehended very soon since we had strategized already,” he added.
