The Governor of Abia State, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, after his unscheduled visit to the State Secretariat on Monday, where he personally observed some structural defects in the building, the Governor decided out of the abundance of caution to ensure that the workers be immediately relocated to avert any disaster.
The directive which is contained in a terse statement signed by the state’s commissioner for information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu also mandated the Head of Service, Sir Onyi Wamah, to promptly relocate workers from the Nnamdi Azikiwe State Secretariat building in Umuahia to a safer accommodation.
The Governor also directed the Chairman of the Nigeria Society of Engineers, Abia State Chapter, to conduct integrity tests on the building and report back to him within 3 weeks.
