…vows to end illegal extortion by police officers

ENUGU— The Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Abdurrahaman has assured of his continual partnership with relevant stakeholders in the state for a safe and secured society.

CP Abdurrahaman made this known on Tuesday while playing host to the state executive members of the Police Community Relations Committee led by Dominic Ezema and the Nigeria Policing Programme (NPP) team in the state led by Solomon Akpanufot, the state intervention lead.

According to the commissioner of police who was newly deployed to the state, “Security is everybody’s business, therefore, we have to police together in line with the tenets of community policing for a safe and secured state.”

“I shall be relating with all the policing actors in the state so that we continue to police together,” he assured.

Earlier, Abdurrahaman had interfaced with the leadership of the Enugu state chapter of the Tricycle Association of Nigeria, led by Comrade Benjamin Ikah, where he reminded them on the need to close ranks with the police towards ensuring a crime free state.

He also warned, in strong terms, against extortion of any kind by policemen on stop-and-search duty post, saying it will no longer be tolerated even as he personally gave out his telephone contacts to the chairman and executives for easy reach.

The state police boss also assured that the Campaign Against Police Unprofessional Conduct (CAPUCON) recently launched in Enugu will be strengthened to serve its purpose as anyone caught in any unprofessional activity will not be spared.

Responding, the state intervention lead of the Nigeria Policing Programme (NPP), Solomon Akpanufot, thanked the commissioner of police and equally briefed him on various programmes being embarked upon by the NPP, assuring of their continual partnership and strenghtening of police accountability.

On his part, the State Chairman of Police Community Relations Committee, Dominic Ezema equally thanked the commissioner of police and assured him of the committee’s support and partnership for a safe and secured Enugu state in line with the community policing tenets.
