In commemoration of the United Nations International Day of Peace, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, has charged youths in the country to shun cultism, violence and other vices and become champion of peace.

The police boss who recently flagged-off an initiative against cultism and other vices in Enugu dubbed “Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV),” said only in the presence of peace can the much needed progress and socio-economic development be brought about in the country.

In a statement issued by the National Coordinator of POCACOV, SP Ebere Amaraizu on Saturday to commemorate the International Peace Day, IGP Adamu called for cooperation from youths and other relevant stakeholders in the promotion of peace and safety in the society.

Part of the statement reads, “As Nigerians join others to mark International Day of Peace on Saturday, 21st September, 2019 in commemoration of the ‘PEACE DAY’ as established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations Resolutions devoted to commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and people, POCACOV the initiative of the Inspector General of Police IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, NPM, mni aimed at saving our youth from the claws of cultism and other vices and to make our environment safe and secured for socio-economic development, has enjoined the youth to say No to Cultism and other vices in order to be that champion of peace to trigger off development in our society.”

“All of us should see ourselves as peacemakers and builders and adhere to the tenets of peace which detest cultism, substance abuse, associated violence and other vices which does not promote peace in our environment. To this end, people are encouraged to work in cooperation for this goal which is peace in our environment,” Amaraizu concluded, advocating for cooperation in peace building.
