The Kano State governorship election tribunal has upheld the election of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje in 2019 Gubernatorial election.

Delivering the judgement on Wednesday, Chairman of the three-member panel, Justice Halima shamaki, in a ruling that lasted for hours dismissed the PDP’s petition seeking the nullification of Ganduje’s victory in March 9 governorship election.

The tribunal ruled that the petition filed against Governor Ganduje of the All Progressive Congress, by Abba Yusuf of the Peoples Democratic Party, lacked merit.

Ganduje was announced the winner of the election following a supplementary election held in the state.

It will be recalled that the INEC Returning Officer for the state, Bello Shehu, said, election was inconclusive in the state due to the number of cancelled votes.

After collation of results, Mr Shehu said while the PDP candidate polled 1,014,474 votes, Mr Ganduje of the APC scored 987,819 votes thereby leaving a difference of 26,655 votes with 141,694 cancelled votes.

After a supplementary election was conducted in 28 out of the 44 local government areas in the state, Mr Ganduje won by scoring 45,876 votes to Mr Abba’s 10,239 thereby leaving a total of 8,982 votes as difference between the two major candidates.
