As the nation marked her 59th independence on the 1st of October 2019, one of the leading political parties in Nigeria, African Democratic Congress, ADC, Enugu State Chapter took to the streets of Enugu to commemorate the day.
The event tagged; “Handshake Across Nigeria” is an annual event of the party and how they wish to mark the Nation’s independence.
Handshake is not just a symbol according to the state Chairman of the party. It also shows friendship, oneness, love and unity.
To commemorate this year’s event, Enugu State ADC took its handshake campaign to SHOPRITE Enugu.
In her message, the State Chairman, Comr. Mrs. Stella Chukwuma who led other party faithfuls to observe the event, thanked God for keeping Nigeria united in the face of biting economic hardship, unemployment, and increasing insecurity.
She enjoined Nigerians to see themselves as one through the handshake irrespective of tribes, tongues, and religion noting that though there are calls for restructuring or outright secession in some quarters, until that happens, Nigeria is still one.
Some Enugu residents who witnessed the “handshake” praised the party for this noble idea and wished Nigeria happy independence.
