Hon. Chima Obieze has emphasized on the need for the government to begin to take proactive measures to take care of the teeming members of the society as neglecting them is on its own, a security risk.
The member representing Ezeagu constituency in Enugu State House of Assembly made this remark in the just concluded Ezeagu Youth Summit which was organized by Ezeagu Youths Assembly.
Hon Obieze decried the increasing number of unemployed youths and the downtrodden in the society stressing that if the government fail to take of them, they will do anything, including crime to survive.
Sighting some of the beggars at the popular Holy ghost market as an example, Hon Obieze said there’s need for the organs of the state government to arrange a welfare package and take them off the street as is obtained in developed society because “if we do not do something, these children that knock on the windows to beg today, will begin to break and take.”
He went on to say that; “Security bothers on how you will be safe, how I will be safe and in every society, the most important duty of the government is security because in an atmosphere of insecurity, nothing is possible.”
He assured the youths that in the coming days, he will seek the support of the Deputy Governor, Chief of staff to Enugu state Governor, the Commissioner from Ezeagu and the LG Chairman so they can organize another skill acquisition programme were over 100 youths from the council will be trained and empowered.
Speaking on the menace of cultism, Hon. Obieze enjoined the youths to shun cultism advising them that; “Anyone that finishes from the university and comes to advise you to join a cult doesn’t like you. Cultism will do nothing but cut your life short.”
Speaking earlier at the event, Prof. Chike Anibueze from Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) who was the guest speaker said; “The idea of seating down plan on how we are going to take care of Security will always take care of security.”
Prof. Anibueze who expressed his satisfaction that youths could come up with ideas such as this said;
“One of the most important thing that will make the society to be secured is employment’ and charged the government to do more to get the youths engaged.
He also charged the youths to seek for legitimate means of getting busy which involves getting a skill that will make them shun any evil act.
The Local Government chairman, Hon. Fred Ezenwa who was represented by Hon. Barr. Odinigbo Churchill said the council understands the role of the youths in maintaining peace in the community and is always ready to work with them. He said; “The youths are better disposed to information to any security crackdown in any society and this is the more reason the youths most synergize with the government to ensure adequate security in our environment.”
