It was Francis Bacon that said and I quote; “He that will not apply new remedies must expect new evils :for time is the greatest innovator.” The above clearly point to the fact that the advent of Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) which is the initiative of the inspector General of police, IGP, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, Npm, Mni, is a welcome development as it conforms with the ideas of seeking new remedies in solving issues in line with the tenets of community oriented policing and away from the use of core law enforcement approach.
The programme; POCACOV, is engaging different stake holders using different strategies and tactics to sensitize them on the inherent dangers in cultism and other vices. POCACOV is also involving the use of corp members under the NYSC-POCACOV Community Development Service, CDS.
POCACOV is also involving notable comedians, actors, actress and artiste who are influencers and with clean records devoid of cultism and other vices under POCACOV ambassadors and the institution of police student relations committee amongst others.
These are programne of action under this new remedy of the inspector General of police to save our youth from the claws of cultism and other vices and to ensure a safe and secured environment through community oriented approach in line with the tenets of community oriented policing.
The programme has already started its journey of nationwide implementation with the sensitization of the Police Public Relations Officers accross the country to get at the desired result and expectations
The media, non-governmental bodies, clergies, corporate bodies amongst others should throw their weight behind this laudable initiative so that the message will continually get to our grass root/communities to save our youth from claws of cultism.
Simply say no to cultism and other vices and be a champion.
