The Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) has called on Church leaders to reciprocate huge investment in mission hospitals by Anambra Government.
The Chairman of CLO Anambra State, Mr Vincent Ezekwueme, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Thursday.
Ezekwueme, however, urged Church leaders to see to the reduction of cost of their services to the people as pay back for taxpayers monies invested on them.
“The church leaders must reciprocate huge public funds invested in mission hospitals and schools by former Gov. Peter Obi and present Gov. Willie Obiano administrations.
“It is pertinent and imperative to note that early missionaries brought hospitals and schools and rendered selfless services freely in order to win early converts to Christianity.
“Unfortunately today the reverse is the case.
“The torrents of complaints by citizens and my personal experiences has made it inevitable for me to reiterate my earlier appeal for our revered church leaders to reduce drastically cost of services they renders in their schools and hospitals.
“As the church is the hospital for the sick, comfort for uncomfortable, hope for hopeless, and joy and love for the afflicted and poor.
“Christian must embrace good motive of doing good for one’s country and its citizens,’’ he said.
According to him, church leaders should constitute committees to monitor conducts of staff in their schools and hospitals as some of their behaviors bring disrepute to the Church.
The CLO boss said that Church leaders must always and almost shows the light and the way for others to follow and abide by the standard set by the early missionaries.
