ENUGU— MEMBER representing Awgu South Constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Johnson Okwudili Chukwuobasi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has assured party faithfuls and members of his constituents of a quality and improved represention come next year, 2020.

Chukwuobasi made the pledge yesterday at the Press Centre, Enugu where members of his constituents, principal officers and women group of the party in Awgu South, President Generals, members of the local government working committee and members of his campaign organization congregated to celebrate the Christmas festivities.

According to the state lawmaker who presented over 100 bags of rice to his constituents, “I feel that the people of Awgu South are not only my constituents but my brothers and sisters and that is why I want to celebrate this Christmas season with you people and give out the little that I have.

“I called you people here to wish you a merry Christmas and a prosperous new year. This is just the beginning; we believe that things will be much better in 2020 as a lot of things are being harmonised in the State House of Assembly to ensure that the people of Awgu South benefits from the dividends of democracy and I must bring back the share of it to my people.”

Chukwuobasi noted that his main achievement since assumption of office at the state legislature was to ensure “that the voice of Awgu South is constantly heard in the hallowed chamber of the State House of Assembly,” adding that all the shares and entitlements of his constituents must be brought with every sense of responsibility.

He highlighted some of the projects and benefits accrued to his constituency in the 2020 Appropriation Bill to include the rehabilitation of Games Village Awgu, the upgrading and expanding of the Orie market to drive economic activities in the local government, the development and funding of the School of Midwifery.

He added that the state government had also included in the 2020 Appropriation Bill which is currently before the House, the establishment of 17 centres for skill acquisition in the 17 local governments of the state, including Awgu local government.

“Gburugburu(Governor Ugwuanyi) has given us the assurance that by 2020, work will be shared and things will improve for the better and by tomorrow(Tuesday), we’ll be speaking for the budget which is all encompassing, it has youth and women empowerment which is under my custody voted for about ₦600 million.

“The skill acquisition centres under the Ministry of Human Capital Development and Poverty Reduction that would be established in all the 17 local governments, including Awgu, voted for ₦300 million also found its way into the Appropriation Bill.

“So, I have no reason not to support the budget and if the budget is appropriated by tomorrow, it will be a very mega project that will further drive the economic well-being and see to the upliftment of our people from poverty,” he concluded.

The State lawmaker urged the people to continue supporting the governor and the state government to realize her set out goals, especially the ones in the 2020 budget, assuring them of quality representation.

Speaking on behalf of the President Generals in Awgu South, the Secretary of the unions appreciated the kind gesture of Hon. Chukwuobasi.

According to him, “You remembered to call those people, the bridge through which you passed to become a member of the House. Without wasting much of your time, on behalf of the PGs, we say thank you very much.”

Earlier, the chairman of the PDP in Awgu South LGA, Hon. Okay Udeh urged party members and faithfuls to eschew the bitter politics of “pull-him-down-syndrome,” saying they should never relent in their support for the Honorable Member and the party in the state.

He told them to always reach him to seek for clarifications on certain issues not clear to them rather than resorting to social media to castigate the lawmaker or the leadership of the party.
