The Archbishop of Enugu Ecclesiastical Province, Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion, the Most Reverend Emmanuel Chukwuma has raised alarm over increasing security threats in the country.

Archbishop Chukwuma made this known when members of the Nigeria union of Journalists’ NUJ Enugu planning committee on Maiden Edition of Annual Lecture Series and thanksgiving.

Archbishop Chukwuma said kidnappers have began operation at the train stations, an indication that no where is safe in the country.

The fearless cleric who is known for speaking the truth to power also added that there is hope for Nigeria, if all citizens live in peace and harmony and called for improved welfare and enumeration of the journalists in Nigeria.

While advising the journalists to uphold professionalism and ethics of their profession, Archbishop Chukwuma rejected hate speech bill; he insisted that it is the right of the media to report everything happening arround them.

The Most Reverend Chukwuma, who commended the choice of the proposed theme of the lecture series, “Promoting Synergy among the Media, Ruling class and the People,” stated that there was no better time to create a unifying society in the country than now.

Archbishop Emmanuel used the opportunity to call on President Muhammadu Buhari to check killings of innocent citizens across the country, epileptic power supply, poverty and hunger.

In a remark, the Chairman, Planning Committee, Median Edition of the NUJ Enugu lecture series, Mr. Michael Ilediagu, described the outcome of the visit as a great encouragement to the effort of the Committee to have a well organized Lecture Series.

Ilediagu told newsmen that the archbishop did not only endorse the lecture series but supported the initiative with provision of a hall.

Meanwhile, the median edition of the NUJ lecture series slated for February, twenthieth 2020 is aimed at closing the gap between the ruling class, media and the people.
